The Comprehensive Spending Review 2007
The CSR2007 signalled a much slower rate of growth for the Health Sector than hitherto. The impact of the subsequent recession has increased the need for more productive work practices in the health sector will be essential. The next CSR has been deferred until 2010.
Support for Business: Simplified Business Support
Publicly funded business support services were streamlined from thousands of publicly funded products to 30 under the Banner of Support for Business by March 2009. By March 2010, Solutions for Business products will be the only government help businesses will see. From 1 April 2009, a new Integrated Brokerage Service bringing together Business Link funded by the Regional Development Agencies and TtG brokers has been established under the Business Link banner
Regionally, the aim is to reduce confusion and improve support for the region’s 431,000 businesses, the vast majority of which are Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Health Skills East is working closely with the East of England Development Agency (EEDA) as part of the principle of joined up and simplified working.
REGIONAL
The East of England Regional Economic Strategy 2008
Skills will feature more prominently in the new regional economic strategy 2008-2031 (RES). and have been factored into many of the RES goals as part of the regional response to globalisation, technology changes, demographic changes and recognition that jobs and investment follow talent.
- The RES published a Summary 2008 in September 2008.
- The East of England Implementation Plan (EEIP) sets down how the long term vision established in the RES and spatial strategy will be delivered. Consultation ended on 3 July 2009 and a consultation report was published in October 2009. The final EEIP is expected in early 2010.
Adult Skills & Employment Strategy for the East of England 2008
The East of England Adult Skills & Employment Strategy has two principal goals:
- Increase the rate of employment in the region through additional and improved skills.
- Grow the Region’s GVA per capita and per employee via improved productivity skills.
